Amos Elementary School Penny War is a Victory for the Shelter Animals

It was a showdown - with boys versus girls at Amos Elementary School. The result was lots of fun, smiles and a feeling of accomplishment after raising $481.00 for a great cause.

It all started when the student council of Amos organized a penny war with the goal of helping the shelter animals at Arlington Animal Services (AAS). It was boys versus girls and all the students in the school participated. For two weeks, the students brought change and dollars to donate to the animal shelter.

The girls collected about $50 more than the boys, and Amos sixth grade teacher Angela Shelman said they "all agreed that the real winners were the animals".

Event organizers from Amos student council and faculty presented their generous donation to AAS Volunteer and Administrative Coordinator Cheri Colbert who provided a full behind the scenes tour of the animal shelter facility.

AAS and its sheltered animals appreciate the kindness and partnership of Amos Elementary School.
