The Container Store is making a return to Arlington, this time in the Arlington Highlands shopping complex.

The grand opening weekend celebration will be held Saturday and Sunday at the new store's 25,000 square-foot location at 4000 Arlington Highlands Blvd.

The popular storage and organization store's arrival marks another high-profile tenant for the Highlands, located at Matlock and Interstate 20.

City leaders said the shopping complex already is performing well, but landing The Container Store only increases its viability.

"It's something of a destination store because of its loyal following," said Bruce Payne, the city's economic development manager. "Having them there creates confidence. It's a good addition for that area."

The store took over the former Border's bookstore spot in the complex.

Payne said The Container Store comes to Arlington at a time when the company is expanding. Its previous location in Arlington was in Lincoln Square.

To promote the store's opening, prizes will be given away to shoppers every hour, including a $1,000 ELFA space makeover both opening days. Customers who "check in" at the store's Facebook page will receive a free gift card.

The company will donate 10 percent of its opening weekend proceeds to the Junior League of Arlington.

Olescia Hanson, a Container Store spokeswoman, said Arlington is a good fit for the company. She said the donations to the Junior League of Arlington would continue The Container Store's tradition of supporting local non-profits.

"It's a fantastic location for us," she said.

Hanson said the store would house 16 "lifestyle areas," more than 10,000 products and an ELFA design center.

The store also will feature a new gift registry service that the company recently started to allow customers to create gift lists for special occasions such as housewarmings, baby showers and graduations.

Hanson also said that customers can utilize a new service to pick up items in the store which are purchased on the web site. They'll even be delivered curbside for additional convenience.

"Our customers are time-starved," she said. "We're definitely offering more of those time-saving solutions for them."

Store hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
