Tierra Verde Golf Club named DFW's top premium public golf course by Avid Golfer

All three City of Arlington 18-hole golf courses were recently ranked in the Top 60 public golf courses in Dallas-Fort Worth by Avid Golfer magazine, including top honors for Tierra Verde Golf Club, which was named the best premium public golf course in the metroplex.

"Tierra Verde is the winner here, as this City of Arlington club features a sensational Gary Stephenson design that was the first golf course in Texas, and the first municipal course in the world, to be certified as an Audubon Signature Sanctuary,' the magazine noted. "What also makes this club great are the practice facilities. Not only is there the standard driving range, putting green and short game area that every course above $50 should have, Tierra Verde also has three practice holes for beginners or those on a time crunch.'

Tierra Verde opened in 1998 and is carved from 250 acres of secluded terrain in southwest Arlington. The course's unsurpassed layout encompasses a variety of natural settings and offers an outstanding playing experience on every hole. Each hole has five sets of tees, sculpted fairways, strategically placed sand bunkers and water hazards - all accented by stately trees and beautiful native grasses.

The facility also features a state-of-the-art indoor golf learning center for year-round practice during inclement and cold-weather conditions and a lighted driving range. Ventana Grille, a full-service restaurant in the Tierra Verde clubhouse, is open daily from 6:30 a.m.-9 p.m., and features Avid Golfers' "Best Burrito' in DFW.

Chester W. Ditto Golf Course was ranked No. 39, as the magazine noted that the "course reputation is on a big upswing.' The course is located in north Arlington, just 15 minutes from the DFW airport and near the heart of Arlington's Entertainment District, featuring the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys and Six Flags. The clubhouse offers snack bar concessions and a full line pro shop with today's most popular equipment and apparel.

Redesigned in the summer of 2008, Lake Arlington Golf Course ranked No. 59 in the 2012 publication. The Ralph Plummer design blends open and tree-lined fairways, long challenging par 3s and scenic views to appeal to every level of player. The clubhouse features a pro shop with the latest apparel and equipment from all of the major manufacturers, club repair and a small cafe with patio seating that overlooks the 18th hole.

"This is the first time in years that all three Arlington 18-hole courses achieved ranking in Avid Golfer,' said Mark Claburn, director of golf course superintendents for the City of Arlington. "It is obvious that people are noticing the hard work that our staff has put into the course conditions and the golf experience for our customers.'

All of the City of Arlington golf courses offer tournaments, group outings, private and group lessons taught by PGA Professionals and Apprentices. For additional information, or to book a tee time, please visit www.arlingtongolf.com.
