The AISD Board of Trustees is set to accept the donation of a fire engine for use in the AISD Fire Academy program as part of a regularly scheduled board meeting Thursday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. at the AISD Administration Building, 1203 W. Pioneer Parkway. The Arlington Fire Department is donating the 1998 Quality/Freightliner 1,250 gallon per minute Pumper to help train students on basic fire pump theory and operations, fire stream and hose skills, vehicle operation, and other safety operations associated with fire-fighting equipment.

An interlocal agreement between the city of Arlington and the school district outlines the terms of the donation. Under the terms of the agreement, the AISD will use the fire engine for a minimum of five years. The AISD is responsible for all the maintenance and repairs of the fire engine. If the fire engine is no longer used for the Fire Academy program after five years, ownership of the fire engine will be transferred back to the city of Arlington.

Immediately following the acceptance of the donation, those present will be given the opportunity to visit with Fire Department personnel, including Fire Chief Don Crowson, and take pictures with the fire engine.
