The Arlington Animal Services Center is full of new-found energy under the leadership of Chrishandra (Chris) Huff, appointed as the new Animal Services Manager as of January 23.

Huff has an impressive list of accomplishments and achievements. She was recently recognized as a recipient of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 2012 "Sharing the Dream" Award in Government, named the 2011 Texas Animal Control Association (TACA) Humane Educator of the Year, and instrumental in the implementation of a long list of Arlington humane education and partnership programs that support youth, seniors, and families.

Huff spent the last three years as the Community Services Educator and previously served as the Animal Services Manager from 2005-2009. During that time, Huff led her team through the construction and successful transition of animals to the current state-of-the-art Animal Services Center located at 1000 S.E. Green Oaks Boulevard.

As an innovative thinker, inspiring educator, and compassionate humane welfare advocate, Huff has personally inspired thousands of Arlington residents through her partnerships with UT Arlington, Arlington Independent School District, local nursing and retirement facilities, businesses, and more. Huff has motivated, educated and cultivated others to be passionate and caring towards animals and community service.

Huff holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management, is a Certified State of Texas Basic Animal Control Officer, an approved State of Texas Certified Animal Control Officer Program Instructor, and is certified in Pet First Aid.

Hundreds of hours of educational and therapeutic events have been administered by Huff including Animal Control Officer training, animal bite prevention classes, and pet therapy for the elderly and disabled. Huff's radiant smile, enduring energy, enthusiasm, and passion for giving back to the community is contagious as she interacts with people and animals.

During the initial four weeks as Animal Services Manager, Huff will be meeting with staff and community partners to discuss the future vision of Arlington Animal Services. In her first meeting with staff, Huff encouraged and accepted suggestions and ideas and shared exciting news about new programs underway.

"We have awesome opportunities for amazing partnerships and continuous growing opportunities for animal placement in forever homes" said Huff. "We are excited about the community sharing our vision of working together and helping our Arlington animals."
