Arlington's finest were out in force today targeting aggressive speeders in South Arlington along the Interstate 20 corridor.

Speeding is a major contributing factor in crashes, including fatalities. Traffic safety is of the utmost concern as our city experienced a very high number of traffic fatalities in 2011. Changing driving behavior through education and enforcement is key to slowing drivers down and reducing the frequency of crashes.

This morning, APD Motor Officers worked a special operation which resulted in 43 traffic stops over a two hour period. The highest speed yielded a whopping 121 mph violation in an area where the posted speed limit is 60 mph.

The APD Motorcycle Unit consists of 16 Motor Officers and 2 Motor Sergeants. Obeying traffic laws will ensure the safe and expeditious flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
