Charlie Parker Elected to City Council

Retired airline pilot Charlie Parker was elected to the district 1 council seat, defeating run-off opponent Bill Verkest by 50 votes. Parker took 51.2 percent of the vote to Verkest's 48.8 percent. Verkest, a retired engineer and former Army colonel captured 1,045 votes to Parker's 1,095.

The votes will be officially canvassed at a council meeting scheduled for Thursday, June 28, 2012. Parker will be sworn into office after the council break in August.
