The Texas Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution recently recognized its Arlington-based Lucretia Council Cochran Chapter with a statewide conservation award for involvement in the City of Arlington’s Lake Arlington Native Plant and Pollinator Garden during 2022. The Lucretia Council Cochran Chapter of the DAR was awarded a first place Certificate of Appreciation at the Texas Society of the Daughter of the American Revolution statewide meeting earlier this year.

The Lake Arlington Native Plant and Pollinator Garden is a project of Arlington Water Utilities and Tarrant Regional Water District, along with local conservation stakeholders and community groups. The goal of the initiative is to restore native prairie and wildflowers to 2.75 acres of land adjacent to the Lake Arlington Dam.

The gated area at 5500 Lake Arlington Drive also features demonstration garden beds with native plants and a gathering area for gardening classes, field trips, and other community events.

 In 2022, Lucretia Council Cochran Chapter Conservation Chair Sharon Newkirk and Publicity Chair Linda Finley, led an effort to become involved in the Native Plant and Pollinator Garden. The Chapter adopted one of the five demonstration garden beds and will work with garden planners to provide continuing maintenance for that 400-square-foot bed.
