Volunteer Resources & Forms

APRD Administration

Arlington Parks and Recreation has a Business Services team that performs all administrative and clerical work for the department. Volunteers can help staff maximize their efficiency by performing basic administrative tasks.

Examples of Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Sorting, filing, scanning, copying, and shredding functions.
  • Basic and advanced computer skills, using these and other application (Word, Excel Spreadsheet, Access Database, Power Point Presentation).
  • Inventory and reorganization of storage rooms, stocking supply areas, furniture moves, work area setup.

Qualifications and Skills Needed

  • Warm personality with strong communication skills.
  • Ability to write clearly and help with word processing when necessary.
  • Ability to understand filing systems quickly.
  • Detail-oriented.

APRD Athletics

Are you passionate about sports? Arlington Parks and Recreation needs energetic volunteer coaches to help coordinate a variety of indoor and outdoor sports, such as baseball, basketball, and volleyball. Visit our Athletics page to learn more about specific sports offered by APRD.

  • Leading youth sports practices.
  • Coordinating game schedules with parents and youth players.

  • Basic knowledge of sports.
  • Communication skills.
  • Commitment of one to two hours per week during each season.
  • Evening and weekend availability.
  • Background check.

APRD Community Programs

Do you enjoy being in the midst of a crowd? Are you energized by fast-paced environments with many moving parts? Maybe you consider yourself an extrovert and simply enjoy the company of your fellow citizens. Regardless of your reason, we would love to have your help as a volunteer for any of our numerous public events.

Examples of Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Greeting event attendees.
  • Way-showing and assisting patrons with reading event maps.
  • Event setup and takedown.
  • Keeping spaces clean during the event.

Qualifications

  • Possess a friendly demeanor.
  • Willingness to engage with the public.
  • Ages 18+ unless accompanied by an adult chaperone. Ages 13-17 with an adult chaperone.

APRD Golf

Golf Player Assistants play a vital role within the Golf Division of the City of Arlington. Visiting patrons have come to expect reliable, quality and friendly service when visiting our facilities. Volunteers are an integral part in delivering consistent and excellent in customer service using their skills on every engagement with all guests.

Examples of Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Provide customers with facility directions, features, and daily information including but not limited to hole location for the day, cart rules, specials and/ or upcoming events.
  • Assist with the delivery and cleaning of golf cars as needed.
  • Assist with facility cleanliness and upkeep (trash removal & pickup, policing of parking lot, sweeping front & rear entrance, cleaning of restrooms, restocking supplies, etc.).
  • During peak or heavy facility demand situations, assist Clubhouse staff with ancillary tasks such as; answering telephone, filling range baskets, answering patron’s questions and promoting of events.

Qualifications and Skills Needed

  • Possess a friendly demeanor.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ages 18+ with a valid drivers license and clean MVR.
  • Minimum of one 4 hour shift each week to qualify for golf playing and practice privileges.

Each month, we will recognize one volunteer as our Volunteer of the Month, who:

  • Demonstrates a passion for their community parks and recreation spaces.
  • Exemplifies teamwork and works well with staff and fellow volunteers.
  • Embodies a friendly demeanor and genuine benevolence.

Any registered volunteer may be nominated. All nominations must be submitted by the last Monday of each month.
