The 59-acre Sheri Capehart Nature Preserve opened in the fall of 2013 as the Southwest Nature Preserve to the delight of many longtime residents in southwest Arlington and the surrounding area that had waited some time for this acquisition to come to fruition.

Located just south of Interstate 20 and adjacent to Bowman Springs Drive, the preserve has three ponds, one of which is complete with a fishing pier and a terraced outdoor seating and education area. It is also host to several significant native plant communities, and has a high bluff located on sandstone outcroppings with dramatic views, including one as far away as downtown Fort Worth. From a parking lot, visitors can access the preserve via a concrete walkway and a boardwalk, which leads to the fishing pier. Several picnic tables have also been installed along the concrete walkway.
