Summer is winding down, but the fun isn’t over just yet! Mark your calendar for these upcoming August events with Arlington Parks and Recreation.

Party in the Park – Saturday, August 13

It’s time for a back to school Party in the Park! East Library and Recreation Center will host this free event at Bob Cooke Park on August 13 from 5:00-9:00 PM. Come enjoy an evening filled with kids’ activities, food, vendors, and a movie showing of Disney’s Encanto. There will be back-to-school resources, like physicals and vaccination information, available as well. A backpack giveaway, courtesy of Canales Furniture, will begin at 6:30 PM on a first come, first serve basis.

Richard Simpson Park Phase II Second Open House - August 16

The Arlington Parks and Recreation Department is excited to receive resident feedback on Phase II development plans for Richard Simpson Park at the second public meeting and open house! This come-and-go meeting is set for 6:30 PM on August 16 at the Kathryn Wilemon Lake House Event Center. Residents are invited to provide input on amenities such as playground areas, pavilion, event gardens, pathway connections, picnic stations, fishing pier, parking lot improvements, landscaping, and more.

Ladies’ Pre-Season Tennis Boot Camp – Wednesday, August 24

Ladies, let’s get ready for the upcoming tennis season! Join Arlington Tennis Center as they host a women’s pre-season boot camp on August 24 from 8:30-11:30 AM. The cost is $45 per player, which includes professional tennis instruction, boxed lunch, strategy play, a special gift, and lots of fun! Online registration will close on August 19 at noon.

East Esports Clinic – Saturday, August 27

Calling all gamers! Meet other gaming enthusiasts in person and play games together at East Library and Recreation Center. This is a great way to swap tips and learn new skills to improve your game. The clinic will take place on August 27 from 9:00-11:00 AM and the cost is $10 per person. If you can’t make it to this session, not to worry – this monthly clinic will be offered at East several times throughout the fall season!

BYOP Bingo (55+) – Wednesday, August 31

Seniors, join us at East Library and Recreation Center for this twist on bingo where YOU bring the prizes in order to participate! Prizes accepted are home and kitchen items, hygiene or spa products, cleaning supplies, and other goods. Bring Your Own Prize Bingo will be held on August 31 at 1:00 PM and is free to attend.
