Atmos Energy

As our community works together to overcome a range of challenges – and especially with colder weather on the way – Atmos Energy wants to raise awareness about financial assistance and flexible payment options available to customers struggling with past due balances.

The company said its goal is to work with customers and help them keep their natural gas service connected during this difficult time, and to help manage their account so the past due amount does not become insurmountable.

In March, Atmos Energy immediately suspended disconnections for non-payment and collection activity, and eliminated fees associated with payment plans. By May, the company enhanced payment plan options and began a robust communications effort to customers and stakeholders, such as cities, food banks, assistance agencies, regulators and faith-based organizations.

Service Disconnections

  • While Atmos Energy continues to suspend natural gas disconnections for most of its customers, the company recently began the disconnection process for customers with high past due balances, who have not made arrangements to pay. Prior to disconnection of service, the company has reached out to these customers to offer payment assistance solutions via phone calls and letters.

  • Atmos has maintained communication with all customers and made several attempts to make sure customers facing high past due balances understand there are payment options and financial assistance available.

Payment Options & Bill Assistance

Funds are available to help the community, from the federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), Atmos Energy donations and the Sharing the Warmth program. These funds are distributed through local energy assistance agencies to qualified residential customers and are offered year-round. Customers do not need to have a disconnect notice to receive assistance.

Customers needing more flexible payment options need them to call Atmos and set up an installment plan that will spread out payments of the customer’s balance over time – with no charges or fees to do so.

The company encourages any customer who is struggling to pay their bill to reach out to find solutions, as payment options may be available even if they have not previously qualified.

Customers can call Atmos at 888.286.6700 (toll free, Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Central) or visit our website at www.atmosenergy.com for payment assistance.

Energy assistance and payment options are available on a first come, first served basis to income-qualified Atmos Energy customers in need.

Customers may locate an agency by visiting https://www.atmosenergy.com/customer-service/bill-payment-assistance or by calling 211. In addition to the agencies listed on the flier, the company recently donated $10,000 to Arlington Urban Ministries to assist customers with their bills.
