The Green Oaks Boulevard street maintenance project is ahead of schedule, meaning Arlington drivers can look forward to a smoother ride sooner than expected.

The project includes milling off the existing road surface and repairing failed sections of concrete paving underneath sections of Green Oaks Boulevard and Little Road in southwest Arlington. This process was followed by a wedge mill and a two-inch asphalt overlay to build a new road surface.

Due to the asphalt overlay on Green Oaks (Pioneer Pkwy to Arkansas Lane and Pleasant Ridge Road to IH-20), there was no way for Public Works crews to determine the exact number of failed concrete slabs that needed to be replaced. The actual number turned out to be significantly less than anticipated, resulting in a $1.3 million savings and the project being one month ahead of schedule.

Work on the current sections is expected to be complete by Friday, November 11, 2016.

In order to capitalize on the cost savings and utilize an existing contract, the City's Public Works and Transportation Department looked at the section of Green Oaks Blvd. between Arkansas Lane and Pleasant Ridge Road and identified more than 100 failed concrete panels in need of repair.

Modifying the existing contract spares the City the expense of bidding a new contract and reduces the amount of time Arlington residents must drive on an uneven road surface and alleviates the inconvenience of two different construction projects.

The additional work is scheduled to begin on on Monday, November 14, 2016 and will take two months. The repairs are funded through the voter-approved Street Maintenance Sales Tax Fund.

The City completed the first phase of street maintenance work on Green Oaks Boulevard between Pioneer Parkway and Arkansas Lane in September, which included installation of new sidewalk ramps.

The Green Oaks Boulevard and Little Road street maintenance work aligns with the Arlington City Council priority to Enhance Regional Mobility.
