Want to support the new Downtown Library and get some cool swag at the same time?

Beginning today, the Arlington Public Library is offering a limited edition Dreams Begin Here library card that supports the new George W. Hawkes Downtown Library. Current cardholders can swap their card for a $1 replacement fee, and those new to the library may select the limited edition version as their first card at no cost. For an additional $4 or more, patrons can show their support by adding their name to their local branch's Dream Wall.

Director of libraries Yoko Matsumoto said that it is important to provide a spectrum of options for the community to support the downtown library's capital campaign at varying levels.

"From coins in the donation boxes at our local libraries to naming opportunities in our stunning new building, every single contribution matters because it shows that our community supports their public library," Matsumoto said. "The new Downtown Library is a catalyst project contributing to the development of a vibrant downtown for Arlington. It will act as an anchor to enhance downtown livability, establish community character for the area, and contribute to the educational and economic vitality of Arlington."

In addition to the Dreams Begin Here card, baseball-style shirts with the same graphic are also available for purchase at a cost of $20, which also supports the new Downtown Library. Shirts can be purchased online or at any of the library's seven branch locations.

You can follow the progress of the downtown library project on the library's website.

If you don't already have a library card, you can apply for one online or at any of the branches around Arlington.

Dreams Begin Here cards are available only until the new library opens in 2018, so get your limited edition card soon.
