Aging Parking Deck Closes

For safety reasons, the City of Arlington has closed the entire upper deck of the parking garage near the Municipal Office Tower, 101 S. Mesquite Street, due to structural problems.

According to Steve Cooke, Assistant Director of Public Works and Transportation, the parking garage is expected to be demolished in the near future.

Cooke went on to say the decision was made after a structural engineer toured the facility. The ground level parking, beneath the elevated deck, may still be utilized except for the parking spaces beneath the failed ramp slab. It will remain open until the demolition of the upper deck. No date has been scheduled for the demolition.

"We decided to close the upper deck before something happened," Cooke said.

The City of Arlington has identified several parking options for people visiting the Municipal Office Tower, including:

  • Central Library parking lot
  • UT Arlington's upper deck (4th floor) of the Park North garage, UTA Boulevard and Center Street
  • Parking lot near Mellow Mushroom, Front Street between N. Center Street and N. Pecan Street
