Hundreds of Arlington preschoolers filled George W. Hawkes Central Library to celebrate El Día de los niños/ El Dia de los libros.

Translated, Día de los niños and El Dia de los libros means Children's Day and Book Day, which is an international effort to introduce kids to books and reading.

During the event, youngsters heard interactive stories from several presenters, including Arlington City Councilman Jimmy Bennett, participated in sing-alongs and played with child favorite Pete the Cat.

James Walden could not believe how much his son participated in story time. "Dane's shy, but I have never seen him sing and move like that, Walden said."

The kids also got a chance to tour the library. Those who filled out library card applications prior to Wednesday's event were able to pick their cards.
