Hotspot

The Arlington Public Library is excited to announce the recent purchase of 100 hotspots. These devices can be checked out beginning Monday, Oct. 11, 2021, for adult library cardholders and are available at every library location. Users can check out and take home a device for 30 days with a library card in good standing.

Hotspots are portable devices that give residents access to the internet no matter the location. These devices are available at no cost and are meant to assist residents who may not have access to the internet. Check out a hotspot today!

“Technology is an essential tool for everyday life,” Library Technology Services Manager Julia Cagle said. “We advocate for access to technology and want it to be a basic service at all our libraries. Just as you can easily check out books at a library, devices like hotspots and laptops should be as easy to obtain.”

Only one device can be checked out at a time. These can be requested through our website and picked up at your nearest library location. After 30 days, the hotspots should be returned to the front desk of any of our seven library locations.

Renewals are allowed based on availability. If a hotspot is overdue and not returned, the Library will remotely disable the device to encourage the patron to return it. Any overdue hotspots will incur a $.25 a day overdue fine.

With this new resource, the Library aims to increase access to technology and digital literacy for the Arlington community. The Library purchased these devices with funds from the Texas State Library and Archive Commission Innovation Zone Grant. The hotspots offer library cardholders the opportunity to increase their digital access and skills from the comfort of their homes.

In addition to the hotspots, the Library offers Chromebooks that are available for checkout in person at the East Library and Recreation Center, located at 1817 New York Ave., Arlington, TX, 76010. Learn more about the Chromebooks here.
