Belvedere Drive

The City of Arlington’s Public Works and Transportation Department is proud to announce the completion of the 2018 Community Development Block Grant Residential Street Rebuild Project. This project, which began in July 2018, consisted of the following improvements:

• Rebuilding Belvedere Drive, from South Collins Street to East Mitchell Street, with 7-inch concrete pavement to create a longer lasting and smoother road surface
• Stormwater system drainage improvements
• Water and sanitary sewer line renewals
• Improvements to sidewalks, installation of ADA compliant ramps, and replacing streetlights for a friendlier and more inviting environment for pedestrians

This $1.5 million project was funded by Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for neighborhood infrastructure improvements and Water and Sanitary Sewer Bond funds and aligns with City Council’s priorities to Champion Great Neighborhoods and Enhance Regional Mobility. Since 1974, funds available through the CDBG program have been used by communities to address vital, yet unmet, needs for infrastructure, public facilities, economic development, and more.

The City uses an annual pavement survey program to inventory the condition of all streets within the city limits. The condition of each street segment is reported as an Overall Condition Index (OCI) Rating between 0-100 based on the “ride” and “distress” of the segment. Roads with a rating lower than 50 are called “red streets” and recommended for inclusion in the department’s Capital Improvement Program. Prior to construction, this section of Belvedere Drive had a rating of 29 but now has a rating of 100 and is designed to last 50 years.
