Using the #WhyIWearTheBadge, officers around the world are highlighting their commitment to the law enforcement profession on Twitter.

This national campaign is sponsored by the International Association of Chiefs of Police as part of National Police Memorial Week. The badge remains the national symbol of courage, strength and integrity.

With members of the Arlington Police Department Honor Guard in Washington D.C. participating in memorial ceremonies that honor officers who have died in the line of duty, officers who did not make this journey are taking to social media to pay tribute to the profession they chose.

Each year, memorial events in our nation's capital draw between 25,000 and 40,000 people. Officers who make the journey, say Police Memorial Week provides a unique opportunity to meet others who share a common brotherhood.

On social media, they are sharing their commitment to the badge.

Using the #WhyIWearTheBadge, Police Chief Will Johnson tweeted: "You are the Reason," after posting a picture of a drawing handed to him by a student at the Newman International Academy on Monday morning.

Another officer tweeted, "I put it on because there has 2 be someone to say it's going to be ok. We're here to help!" Officer Gus Moreno is an APD School Resource Officer.

Across the world, officers are sharing photos and videos of what motivates them to serve. Follow APD on Twitter for more highlights.
