The Arlington ISD has been selected to the AP/IB Equity and Excellence Project for demonstrating its commitment to ensuring that historically underrepresented students have the opportunity to succeed in challenging high school courses.

Nearly 300 schools applied for one of 120 available spots in the project, and, as a member, the Arlington ISD will receive match-funded technical assistance from Equal Opportunity Schools - supported by Google Global Impact Awards and the researchers at the Education Innovation Laboratory at Harvard University - to help close access and success gaps in Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate programs by fall 2016.

The goals of the AP/IB Equity and Excellence Project align with that of the district's Achieve Today. Excel Tomorrow. strategic plan to offer rigorous learning experiences that will prepare our graduates to excel in higher education or the career of their choice.

"In the AISD, we're proud to offer access and excellence through innovation, and we believe that every student can succeed," Superintendent Dr. Marcelo Cavazos said. "This program will allow us to ensure that any student interested in advanced coursework excels in those classes and is able to earn college credit while still in high school."

Equal Opportunity Schools leadership shared, "It is exciting to see districts like Arlington ISD committed to fully reflect their diversity at the highest academic levels while boosting success for all students."
