Cynthia Stamper has volunteered with the Arlington Public Library since she retired in November 2008. During her professional career, Cynthia worked as a forensic accountant for the federal government. Prior to that, she was a certified public accountant. She has always wanted to work in a library and knew that this is what she wanted to do when she retired.

Growing up in Bossier, Louisiana, Cynthia was surrounded by books and readers. Her parents were teachers, and the library was her second home. She fell in love with mysteries as a young girl and specifically with the Nancy Drew series.

Cynthia graduated from Northwestern University (Evanston, Illinois) with a math degree, and moved to Texas right after securing her first professional job. Once in Texas, Cynthia went on to earn an accounting degree from Southern Methodist University.

This bookworm loves math, reading, computers, crocheting and traveling. She has travelled all over the world. Her favorite vacation spots are Australia, Seattle and Alaska. A seafood lover, Cynthia's favorite restaurant is Red Lobster, where she can order the popcorn shrimp. Her favorite Texas dish is spinach quesadillas.

Cynthia currently volunteers twice a week at the Central Library location, shelving returned materials. She recently began assisting with volunteer orientations, providing shelving training and tours of various library collections to new volunteers. Cynthia is a great asset to the Central Library and is well thought of by staff and volunteers.

She is also a volunteer and member for the Friends of the Arlington Public Library. Since 1997, she has been volunteering for the organization on Saturdays. She conducts price research for the Collector's Corner, both at the warehouse and from home. Once retired, Cynthia was able to volunteer at the library during the week, so she could service both organizations.

When asked what she enjoyed most about being a volunteer, Cynthia replied, "The people I work with at the library!"
