Arlington will spread the word on going green at Ecofest Arlington, a free, family-fun event packed full of information, activities and demonstrations that promote environmental awareness. This is the fifth consecutive year of the event. Ecofest Arlington takes place on Saturday, September 21 from 10am to 10pm at Founders Plaza, 100 W Abram St., in downtown Arlington.

"We are very excited for another opportunity to show our citizens how important it is to live a sustainable lifestyle,"said Heather Dowell, Arlington Parks and Recreation Urban Forestry Land Manager. "Every year this event gets bigger and better and we know it is making a difference in our community."

For 2013, Ecofest Arlington has partnered with Republic Services to provide a wide range of activities starting at 10am. More than 40 vendors will participate, spotlighting their green products and services. Classes and demonstrations on environmental awareness will take place throughout the day. Children' s activities will be part of the event as well with games, crafts and educational presentations. Food and refreshments will also be available for purchase during the event.

Live entertainment is on the Ecofest Arlington schedule with local bands performing at the Levitt Pavilion. Julie Hazzard performs Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. Later that day, Larry G(ee) hits the stage at 6:30 p.m. followed by The Killdares at 8 p.m. The pavilion offers open lawn seating (chairs and blankets are welcome).

In keeping with the message of Ecofest Arlington, event planners are aiming for a zero-waste event. There will be recycling stations set up and vendors are required to use only materials that fit the recycling and composting guidelines.

Along with title sponsor, Republic Services, Ecofest Arlington has joined with many other valuable partners in the community to bring this year' s event to its citizens, including the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation, University of Texas at Arlington, Friends of the Levitt Pavilion, Texas Power, Rental Stop, Fast Signs, Arlington Parks and Recreation and numerous city departments.
