Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

Need help with your income taxes? Arlington residents whose individual or household income is less than $60,000 annually are eligible for free income tax assistance.

The City of Arlington is once again offering Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, which provides qualifying individuals with free quality tax preparation assistance from IRS-certified volunteers. VITA helps taxpayers claim valuable tax credits to ensure they are maximizing their full refund potential. This can include the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC).

Starting Feb. 15, two community tax centers will provide virtual tax preparation services and one location will provide in-person tax preparation assistance during set dates and times. Communication with clients will be done by phone and the signed tax returns will be available for pick up on a separate date. No appointment is needed for virtual tax preparation assistance.

Collaboration of VITA partner agencies such as City of Arlington, City of Fort Worth, Catholic Charities, Foundation Communities, United Way of Tarrant County, and the Internal Revenue Service support the VITA program to help low-to-moderate income families by providing free tax preparation assistance. VITA saves the taxpayers the cost of tax preparation and helps them claim all the tax credits for which they are eligible including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Tax Credits (CTC).

Since VITA began 12 years ago, the program has helped Tarrant County residents secure more than $138 million in total tax refunds, filed more than 75,000 tax returns and saved residents over $20 million in tax preparation fees.
Please note, Tarrant County Volunteer Income Tax Assistance is not affiliated with the AARP, which is offering tax prep assistance at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.
