Packages on a front porch.

Are you planning to snag some great bargains during Amazon Prime Day? You aren't alone. Millions of items will be purchased during this year's online shopping sale Oct. 13-14, which means lots and lots of packages are heading to Arlington doorsteps.

Concerned about a potential increase in package thefts over the coming weeks, Arlington police are asking residents to take these five tips to help keep their online orders safe from front porch thieves.

  • Track your packages online so deliveries can be brought inside as quickly as possible.
  • Ask a friend or neighbor to pick up your delivered packages if you won't be home for a while.
  • Have packages delivered to your workplace/office if possible.
  • Be on the lookout for suspicious activity, such as people walking neighborhoods with packages, or vehicles following delivery trucks around the neighborhood.
  • Call 911 on any of these or other suspicious activity.
