The City’s Public Works and Transportation Department will soon begin construction on two new projects that aim to improve streets, drainage, and water and sanitary sewer infrastructure in east and southwest Arlington.

The $4.5 million Collins Street project, which focuses on the section between Park Row Drive and Pioneer Parkway, recently completed the design phase and is scheduled to begin construction this fall. Improvements planned include reconstructing the outside two lanes and replacing failed concrete panels for the middle three lanes, rebuilding the sidewalks, replacing streetlights and adding new traffic signs. Additionally, the City will make signal improvements at the intersections of Collins Street and Lovers Lane and Collins Street and Park Row Drive.

Residents in southwest Arlington can look forward to updates for Calender Road between Curry Road and Harris Drive. This project, which begins this fall, consists of rebuilding the asphalt roadway (including both travel lanes, the continuous left turn lane, and the on-street bicycle lanes), installing storm drainage infrastructure, and adding sidewalks, streetlights and landscaping. The project also includes installation of a roundabout at Curry Road and Calender Road and one at Kuykendall Drive and Calender Road.

Arlington voters approved funding for these projects in the 2014 Bond Election. These investments support the City Council’s priorities to Enhance Regional Mobility and Champion Great Neighborhoods.
