New Center Street Bridge Project Underway

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), in partnership with the City of Arlington, has started the $10.4 million Center Street bridge project over Interstate 20. The project, which will improve mobility, safety and connectivity, will consist of the building of a four-lane bridge with a sidewalk from the existing Center Street north of I-20 and extending south to Bardin Road.

"The Center Street Bridge project will enhance traffic circulation in the area as well as provide alternative access to the shopping areas along the I-20 corridor," said David Wynn, Assistant Director of Public Works and Transportation for the City of Arlington.

The project was awarded to Rangle Construction, Inc. Occasional closures of I-20 will be necessary to install bridge beams, and those closures will be limited to nighttime, off-peak hours. The project is estimated for completion in Summer of 2016.

TxDOT appreciates the patience of motorists, and encourages attention to all warning signs within the construction work zone while crews work diligently to complete this project as quickly and as safely as possible. You can see all Texas road conditions by visiting: www.drivetexas.org.

Since last summer, drivers throughout Arlington have witnessed the results of a citywide road construction boom not seen in decades. As many 16 major public works and water utility upgrades totaling as much as $80 million will roll out over a two-year period.
