Legendary Arlington Haunts

Thrill- seeking individuals looking for a haunting experience don't need to travel far; they can find it in Arlington.

At Six Flags Over Texas, Halloween themed shows and treats are available for younger guests and families by day. By night, haunting houses open and guests are haunted by by ghouls, goblins and zombies; the scare's part of the fun.

River Legacy Park is home to an old trail called "Hell's gate," where it' s said spies of the union army were executed during the Civil War. According to legend, people hear the muffled whimpers of prisoners being taken to execution. The park is open from five am to 10 pm and is free to all guests.

Screaming Bridge, located near River Legacy Park and Trinity Blvd., has two alleged stories that haunt it. In the first story, a carload of teenagers was heading home from a football game over the Trinity River and hit another car head on. Both cars ended up falling over the bridge and all were killed.

The second story recalls a night in 1961. A group of women were driving through the country roads around Arlington and accidentally drove off a bridge, which had been burned out, two women were killed in the accident.

Legend says if you are able to find the bridge in River Legacy Park, you'll witness a heavy fog with headlights approaching from both sides of the bridge. And if you listen closely enough, the loud shrieking of the women from 1961 can be heard
