Is Your Gas Service Set Up? Avoid Delays & Get Prepared For Winter Now

Before temperatures start to drop in North Texas, residents need to do a few things to prepare for colder weather, particularly ensure their gas service is set up. Residents can use gas to power a variety of appliances, including heaters, hot water tanks and gas logs in fireplaces.

Last year the U.S. faced record-setting natural gas consumption, and industry leaders think the same may hold true for this winter.

Atmos Energy, the area's provider of natural gas, is encouraging new and inactive customers to get a head start before winter is upon us. To avoid long wait times on the phone and delays in activating your service, Atmos is asking people to call their Customer Service Center at 1-888-286-6700 while the weather is still mild.

Getting gas service is not as quick as flipping a switch. Residents must schedule an appointment with Atmos, so a trained technician can perform a safety check before activating the gas service.

For those looking for the shortest wait time on the phone, call Atmos on weekday afternoons, since mornings are typically the busiest time at the Customer Service Center. Customers who call during a busy time can use the automated phone system to schedule a return call from an agent rather than waiting on hold.

Atmos Energy's Customer Service Center is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1-888-286-6700. For emergencies, call 1-866-322-8667.
