Arlington Public Transportation

Arlington’s citywide rideshare public transportation service, formerly known as Via, has a new name and a new app for booking rides.

Starting Monday, Aug. 14, the City’s rideshare public transportation service will be known as Arlington On-Demand. Riders will need to download a new app, Arlington Transportation, on their smartphone to use in place of the Via Arlington app. Residents who don’t have a smartphone to download the app can continue to call 817-784-7382 to book a ride by phone.

Why the name change? After five years of gathering ridership data, the City transitioned the on-demand, rideshare public transportation service from pilot program status to a traditional city service in 2022. With that change, the City is rebranding the service as Arlington On-Demand.

Arlington On-Demand will continue to be operated by River North Transit, LLC, a subsidiary of Via. The Arlington City Council approved a contract with the company to continue the transportation service through 2024, along with four two-year renewal options. Vehicles used for the service will be branded Arlington On-Demand and will continue to feature the Via logo on them.

Arlington On-Demand remains available citywide and with connections to the TRE Centreport Station and the Eastchase Parkway area of far east Fort Worth, which includes connections with two Trinity Metro bus routes. The service is available from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday. Trips range from $3 to $5 per person per trip, depending on the distance traveled.

What else is new? If riders have their smartphone’s default language set to Spanish or Vietnamese, the new Arlington Transportation app will automatically be translated.
