OEM Mission
To protect the lives, property, and environment of the City of Arlington from natural and human-caused disasters.
OEM carries out its mission by following the four phases of emergency management:
- Mitigation – taking steps to reduce the impact of future disasters before they happen.
- Preparedness – planning, training, and practicing so people and organizations are ready to respond to emergencies.
- Response – taking immediate action to protect people and property during an emergency.
- Recovery – restoring services and helping the community return to normal after an emergency.
To support these efforts, OEM coordinates emergency plans, provides training, conducts drills and exercises, and manages financial assistance programs for disaster preparedness and recovery.
About OEM
The City of Arlington faces many hazards that can disrupt the community, damage property, and put lives at risk. These hazards include fires, floods, severe storms, and tornadoes. The city also prepares for possible terrorist threats and accidents involving hazardous materials during transportation, storage, or use.
To prepare for these emergencies, the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) maintains the City of Arlington Emergency Management Plan (EMP). This plan provides the framework for how the city prepares for, responds to, and recovers from natural and human-caused emergencies.
The Emergency Management Plan is based on the four phases of emergency management: Mitigation, Preparedness, Response, and Recovery.
