Arlington Public Library's Open Mic Night

Arlington Public Library will host a live performance night for creative teens this Thursday, July 30 from 5-7 p.m. in the Southwest Branch Library Community Room. Whether you're sharing a poem, a song, a comedy act, or a dance, we want to see it! Original works and covers are both welcome. Performers must be teens in 7th to 12th grade. Slots are still available, but performers must register here before attending. If you would just like to attend the program but not perform, registration will not be required. We hope to see you out there!

UTA Free Summer Movie Series

UT Arlington presents another free summer movie this Thursday, July 30 at 9 p.m. on the west lawn behind the Maverick Activities Center (500 W. Nedderman Drive). Students, faculty/staff, alumni and community members are welcomed. This week, the classic hit "Dirty Dancing" will be playing. There will be complimentary popcorn while supplies last and other concessions for sale. Guests are asked to park in Student Lot 33, which is open after 5 p.m. Please remember that kids under the age of 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. And don't forget to bring a blanket or lawn chair!

UTA Planetarium Shows

UTA Planetarium has a number of shows for you and your family to check out as the days of summer start to wind down. "Stars of the Pharaohs" allows visitors to travel to Ancient Egypt to see how science was used to tell time, make a workable calendar, and align huge buildings. Showtimes are 2 p.m. on Friday and 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. "One World, One Sky: Big Bird's Adventure" Big Bird's Adventure begins on Sesame Street when Elmo's friend, Hu Hu Zhu, visits from China. Together, Big Bird, Elmo and Hu Hu Zhu locate the Big Dipper, the North Star and the Moon in the night sky. Showtimes are 2 p.m. on Thursday and Saturday at 1 p.m. These are just two of several great shows you can check out this weekend. Rangers vs. Giants Weekend Series

The Texas Rangers are at Globe Life Park in Arlington this weekend for a three-game Interleague series against the San Francisco Giants of the National League West. The will play two night games, both Friday, July 31 and Saturday, August 1, with first pitch at 7:05 p.m. The day game on Sunday, August 2 gets underway at 2:05 p.m. and features $1 ice cream for kids ages 13 and under. Arlington CVB Segway Tours

The Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau has partnered up with Segway Fort Worth to offer Arlington visitors and residents two ultimate treks around some of The American Dream City's most popular attractions! Glide with a group around Globe Life Park in Arlington, past Richard Greene Linear Park and Robert Cluck Linear Park and right by AT&T Stadium or book an exclusive tour inside the ballpark. Tours are available by appointment only. Call 817-631-3273 to book your segway fun! You can also stop by the Visitor Welcome Center (corner of Randol Mill & Ballpark) to check out routes. Arlington Segway Tours are available Thursday-Sunday at 9 am, 11 am, 4 pm and 6 pm.

Arlington Museum of Art Presents Toulouse-Lautrec and La Vie Moderne: Paris 1880-1910

Art lovers can check out a new exhibit at Arlington Museum of Art in Downtown this weekend! The exhibit contains almost 200 pieces from avant-garde Post-Impressionist artists working in a new French "modern" style. Built around the work of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, painter of scenes and artists from the famed Paris theatre the Moulin Rouge, this expansive exhibit will explore the anti-establishment movement among artists seeking alternative means to bring their art to a broad public and break out of the traditional molds. The exhibit is open to the public until Sunday, August 16, 2015.
