The Arlington ISD has formed a unique partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Arlington to include an after-school center in the new Peach Elementary, which will open on Baird Farm Road in August 2016.

"This first-of-its-kind partnership will provide AISD families an on-campus option for after-school care focused on science, technology, engineering, art and math that is research-based and outcome-driven," AISD Superintendent Dr. Marcelo Cavazos said. "The vision of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Arlington closely aligns with the district's mission and will provide our students with access to academic, healthy lifestyle and character programs as well as evening meals."

The additional 7,000 square feet included in the building as a result of this partnership will be funded by the Boys & Girls Clubs, with a lead matching grant from the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation, and will provide a mixed-use space that can serve 200 students per day. Since 1993, the Boys & Girls Clubs has operated a center in a portable building at Roquemore Elementary that can only serve 110 students per day. There will be a dedicated space for teens in the new center, and students from Nichols who participate in the program will receive transportation.

"This facility will allow us to provide increased opportunities for students in a 21st century space while saving donor funding by sharing construction costs," said Boys & Girls Clubs of Arlington President/CEO Steve Wurm. "Through our programming and work with other youth-service organizations, we can enable young people to reach their maximum potential and become caring, responsible citizens."

"The Arlington Tomorrow Foundation is delighted to be the lead donor to this important project," said Carolyn Mentesana, Arlington Tomorrow Foundation executive director. "We hope other donors will join us in supporting this exciting partnership and the power of a collaboration between two organizations dedicated to improving the lives of Arlington's youth and their families."
