The third annual Community Resource Fair, hosted by Texas Live!, will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at Arlington Backyard in the Entertainment District. The event is designed to support families in need by providing a number of services ranging from school supplies, housing and childcare resources, mental health and dental support, tutoring, scholarship information, job search assistance, training opportunities and more.
TaShunda Scott, community manager at Spark Coworking and event organizer, was working as an outreach representative for the Texas Live! Entertainment District at Workforce Solutions of Tarrant County when she saw a need for resources for families in transition.
“I helped around 250 staff find resources for childcare, transportation, housing. While we initially wanted to bring these resources to our staff, we realized we could also bring them to the community,” said Scott.
She explained that the timing of the event is crucial — it’s a resource after the back-to-school supply drives are over, but before Thanksgiving turkeys and Christmas toy drives start.
“We can fill in the gap and help provide support for those families. It’s Texas Live!’s day of serving the community,” she said.
Past events have served about 500 people or 150 families — this year’s goal is to serve 250 families.
Participating vendors include the Arlington Housing Authority, Segue Living Center, Dental Health of Arlington, Educational Talent Search, Don’t Forget to Feed Me Pet Food Bank and Schooling Talent, among others. Free lunch and entertainment from Schooling Talent will also be provided.
