On Saturday, April 26, 2025, volunteers and residents joined the Neighborhood Enhancement Team (NET) to clean up areas throughout the Fairfield subdivision in southeast Arlington. They collected 5.41 tons (11,927 pounds) of trash and debris. This effort pushed the citywide total of trash removed by NET to over 174 tons, which is more than 384,508 pounds since the program’s launch in 2019.
Beyond the numbers, the event was a meaningful day of connection and hands-on support. Four households received direct assistance from volunteers who helped with yard work and property improvements that might have otherwise been out of reach.
“We truly appreciate the help,” said Boris Materne, a Fairfield resident.
The popular Tool Sharing Program Trailer was on hand, stocked with equipment to help residents with their cleanup goals. Seven tools were borrowed and used for everything from mowing lawns to trimming trees, giving properties a fresh and cared-for look.
Following the hard work, the community gathered for a celebratory block party. About 25 neighbors came together to enjoy hot dogs, cold drinks, and a chance to reflect on what they had accomplished together. The afternoon was made even more special thanks to community partner David Jackson, affectionately known as “The Retired Librarian”, who generously donated 90 free books to families through his organization Community Advocating for Prosperity and Opportunity (CAPO).
The success of neighborhood events like these lies within the heart of the community—our community volunteers, partners and residents who show up and willingly lend a hand. A heartfelt thanks goes out to Council Member Nikkie Hunter (District 3), Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, the Arlington Hispanic Citizen Police Academy, Republic Services and City staff who made the day a success.
Together, we’re not just cleaning neighborhoods—we’re building safer and more attractive neighborhoods and a stronger, more connected community.
