Arlington to Implement Phased Permit Fee Adjustments in 2025
Published on September 04, 2025
The City of Arlington’s Planning and Development Services Department is rolling out a two-phase update to its permitting fee structure beginning this fall, following a comprehensive review—the first of its kind since 2008. The phased approach is designed to bring fees in line with the actual cost of services and ensure compliance with new state regulations.
Over the years, only limited fee changes have been made, typically in response to state legislative mandates, local ordinance updates, or City reorganizations. As a result, many fees no longer adequately reflect the cost of providing services. The upcoming changes will ensure that the City can continue to offer efficient and sustainable permitting services.
Phase I: Effective July 15, 2025
Approved by the Arlington City Council on June 24, 2025, the first phase of fee adjustments includes updates to:
- Platting
- Zoning
- Sign permits
- Special event parking
- Temporary outdoor and special events
- Trade permits (e.g. validations and various inspections for mechanical, electrical, plumbing and irrigation systems)
- Board and Commission and special staff meetings associated with permitting applications
- Gas well drilling
- Health permits
