Local business-owners Bobby and Victoria Booker opened Bonchon Korean Fried Chicken in downtown Arlington in May 2025.
The Bookers’ decision to become Bonchon franchise owners was borne from a shared love of food and a dream of starting a business together. After passing by the corporate headquarters in Addison, they decided to try out the food.
“We enjoyed the atmosphere, the customer service, the food and the experience. And while we were sitting there fighting over the Korean donuts, we thought we should look into this Bonchon thing,” said Bobby Booker.
All of Bonchon’s recipes, techniques and sauces come from South Korea. They offer a variety of authentic South Korean cuisine, including fried chicken, wings, bulgogi and bibimbap, among others. And Booker believes the product speaks for itself.
“The wings will change your life,” he said. “The Korean technique with how we wash our flavors on so it isn’t soggy, how we batter and double fry so it’s crunchy… the procedure is the secret,” he said.
The Bookers have enjoyed being part of Arlington’s business community and their location in the Urban Union area, where potential customers can find them through the Downtown Arlington Farmer’s Market or First Thursdays promotions. They also have a partnership with the University of Texas at Arlington.
“It’s a smaller community-type feeling in a big city like Arlington,” said Bobby. “And everyone is looking to help each other, we’re not in competition,” added Victoria.
The Bookers own the other Bonchon Arlington location in the Highlands, as well a store in Dallas near SMU. Each location has between 5 and 15 employees, depending on the services offered. They have plans to open locations in Euless, Mansfield and Red Oak.
