About the Budget
The proposed budget for the next fiscal year, which begins Oct. 1, includes spending cuts, new fees and fee adjustments, and a three-cent property tax rate increase to close a $20 million budget shortfall in what is needed for Arlington to provide the current level of city services. The budget also includes proposed increases in residents’ water and sanitary sewer rates, the garbage collection rate and the stormwater fee.
At the Aug. 12 meeting, the Council will call for a public hearing on the proposed budget and the proposed tax rate. The Fiscal Year 2026 proposed budget, presented to Council on Aug. 5, includes a property tax rate of $0.6388 per $100 of assessed value. However, the Council may propose a different tax rate. The tax rate and budget public hearing will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9 and the second vote on the budget and tax rate will be held Sept. 16.
The proposed budget and business plan is built around supporting the City Council's priorities: Enhance Mobility, Grow Our Economy, Preserve Financial Stability and Resilience and Strengthen Our Communities.
