The Arlington Police Department has made an arrest in connection to the 2016 shooting death of Hugo Hernandez-Castrejon.

In May 2016, APD Homicide detectives obtained a warrant for the arrest of 31-year-old Francisco Rodriguez on one count of Murder. At the time, it was believed he may have left the country.

This week, the department was notified that Mr. Rodriguez was located and arrested in Escondido, California for an unrelated offense. His Murder warrant was confirmed when he was taken into custody.

On May 1, 2016, APD officers responded to a home in the 3100 block of Bahar Drive to investigate a reported shooting. When they arrived on scene, they found Mr. Hernandez-Castrejon unresponsive in the backyard with a gunshot wound. He was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased from his injuries.

Investigators learned both men were at the house attending a party. Multiple witnesses told detectives a handgun was laying on a table in the backyard and at some point, Mr. Rodriguez began handling it. A short time later, a shot was fired and Mr. Hernandez-Castrejon was struck. Mr. Rodriguez left the scene immediately following the shooting.

He is currently being held at the San Diego County Jail where he awaits extradition back to Tarrant County.
