Levitt Pavilion Arlington will host a free concert by internationally renowned pianist and Cliburn laureate Kenny Broberg as part of “Countdown to the Cliburn,” a series of community concerts taking place at venues across DFW through May 21, leading up to the Sixteenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition happening this summer.
The Levitt stop is set for Tues., April 5 at 7:30 p.m. In addition to Broberg (the Cliburn 2017 silver medalist), Countdown to the Cliburn concerts will feature laureates Rachel Cheung (2017 finalist and audience award) and Steven Lin (2013 jury discretionary award), as well as special presentations of Cliburn Kids education programs. No tickets are required.
Letatia Teykl, executive director for Levitt Pavilion Arlington, said the Broberg concert marks the first collaboration between Levitt and the Cliburn.
“Although we’re in the thick of getting ready for our own season, which kicks off in the weekend of May 6, we didn’t hesitate to say ‘yes’ to this wonderful opportunity to take a role in the world-renowned Cliburn competition, which has so long been a source of pride and joy for Tarrant County,” said Teykl. “It’s not every day that you have the chance to hear a Cliburn laureate perform outdoors on a Steinway in downtown Arlington, so we’re encouraging all lovers of classical music (and beautiful music in general) to make plans to join us on the lawn on April 5.” Find out more about the 2022 Levitt free concert series.
