The City of Arlington has proposed a fare change for the Arlington Handitran and On-Demand transportation services.
The Handitran elderly and disabled service fares are proposed to change from the current $2 per person per trip to $3 per person per trip. One personal care attendant (PCA) per passenger will still be able to ride for free. Handitran fares were last changed in 2008.
The On-Demand general public service fares are proposed to change from the current $3 to $5 per person per trip to $3 to $8 per person per trip, based on distance travelled, with some trip costs decreasing. On-Demand trips to and from the CentrePort TRE Station will remain at the $3 flat rate fare. The exact fare will be quoted to the rider before booking a trip. On-Demand fares were last changed in 2021. Current and proposed fares are shown below.
- Distance 0 to 1.5 miles: Current Fare $3.00, Proposed Fare $3.00
- Distance 1.5 to 3 miles: Current Fare $3.50, Proposed Fare $3.00
- Distance 3 to 4 miles Current Fare: $4.00, Proposed Fare $3.00
- Distance 4 to 4.5 miles: Current Fare $4.00, Proposed Fare $4.00
- Distance 4.5 to 5 miles: Current Fare $4.50, Proposed Fare $4.00
- Distance 5 to 6 miles: Current Fare $4.50, Proposed Fare $5.00
- Distance 6 to 7 miles: Current Fare $5.00, Proposed Fare $6.00
- Distance 7 to 8 miles: Current Fare $5.00, Proposed Fare $7.00
- Distance Over 8 miles: Current Fare $5.00, Proposed Fare $8.00
- Distance to/from Centreport: Current Fare $3.00, Proposed Fare $3.00
Additionally, the weekly and monthly passes for both the Handitran and On-Demand services are proposed to be replaced with ride credit bundles that will be available for purchase at a discount. The proposed ride credit bundles will be available for use on both Handitran and On-Demand services, have no expiration date, and will be priced as follows:
- Pay $25 for $30 worth of ride credit
- Pay $45 for $60 worth of ride credit
- Pay $65 for $90 worth of ride credit
A public comment period will be open from November 5, 2025, through December 12, 2025, in advance of a public hearing at the January 6, 2026, 6:30 pm City Council meeting.
