Have you been waiting to make those costly upgrades to your home? Here’s your opportunity to make them happen and save money at the same time. The Arlington Home Improvement Incentive Program (AHIIP) offers a one-time tax incentive for major improvements to single-family homes in Arlington and may help increase the value of your investment.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify, your project must meet these criteria:

  • Property: Single-family residence located within Arlington city limits.  Must be occupied by homeowners or renters.
  • Investment: A minimum total project cost of$20,000.
  • Status: All Tarrant County property taxes and City fees must be current.
  • Timing: You must not start your improvements until a Chapter 380 program agreement (contract) is fully executed with the City.
  • Deadline: Improvements must be completed within 24 months of signing the agreement.
  • Compliance: All work must follow local, state, and federal laws and ordinances.

How AHIIP Works

  1. Review: City staff will review your application for eligibility within 5 business days.
  2. Agreement: Upon approval, you will sign the Chapter 380 agreement with the City, and submit for internal approvals, a process that may take 3-4 weeks.
  3. Notice to Proceed: Once the agreement is finalized with the City and required building permits are issued, you must receive a formal Notice to Proceed before beginning any project improvements.
  4. Completing Improvements: After completing your improvements, submit an online Project Completion Form. You’ll provide required documents that demonstrate project completion, as outlined in the Chapter 380 Agreement.
  5. Inspection & Incentive Calculation: The City may inspect the completed work and will determine the incentive based on the difference between City of Arlington pre- and post-improvement tax values, as reflected on your annual Tarrant County property tax statements. The incentive will be paid at least one year after your home improvements are completed. 

    The Tarrant Appraisal District determines the final taxable value. While the maximum program incentive is $5,000, the City does not guarantee a specific rebate amount.

  6. Payment: After the incentive payment is issued, the agreement is fulfilled.
