Arlington Home Improvement Incentive Program

If you have been waiting to make those costly upgrades to your home, then it’s time to make it happen. The Arlington Home Improvement Incentive Program (AHIIP) is in place to encourage you to make improvements in your home or business that will increase the value of your investment.
How does it work?
A one-time rebate equal to 10 times the amount of the increase in City taxes will be paid to the homeowner based on the property’s pre-improvement and post-improvement appraised value. For the purposes of this program, the Tarrant County Appraisal District will determine the home’s certified value.
The rebate will be paid to the homeowner pursuant to the Incentive Agreement after April 1 of the first full calendar year after completion of the approved project. Rebates will be paid up to a maximum of $5,000 per dwelling. If, for example, a home improvement project is approved in March 2018 and completed in August 2018, then the property tax value would be calculated before and after the improvements. If the difference in property tax totals $200, then the homeowner would receive $2,000, which is 10 times the increase in taxable value improvements.
Am I eligible?
To be eligible for the Arlington Home Improvement Incentive Program, applicants will meet the following requirements:
- Must be a single-family homeowner within the Arlington city limits, including owners of rental properties.
- At the time of application, the single-family home must be occupied by homeowner(s) or renters.
- Must agree to expend at least $20,000 in home improvements to the single-family residential home. Application will include contractor estimates for the proposed improvement project, consent to periodic inspections during construction, and verification of final construction costs.
- Reconstruction or remodeling home improvements must be completed within 24 months of project approval. New construction will not be considered under this program.
- The homeowner must fully execute an Incentive Agreement with the City of Arlington prior to starting any home improvement.
- At the time of application, homeowner must be current on all federal, state, and local taxes related to the single-family home that is the subject of the application.
Eligibility Exceptions
- Homeowners with an existing exemption or tax freeze on city property taxes
- Homeowners who will claim an exception in the next property tax year
- Owners who successfully protest for lowered appraisal values
