The Public Works Engineering Operation Division is celebrating the completion of the voter-approved, $9.5 million rebuild of West Sublett Road between Joplin Road and the western city limits in West Arlington near Kennedale.

The Sublett Road Project, which began in May 2023 and was completed in June 2025, was designed to provide capacity and safety for vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians. This project, which aligns with the City Council priority to Enhance Mobility, was funded through the 2018 Bond Election and the Tarrant County 2006 Transportation Bond Program.

Sublett Road from the western city limits to Joplin Road was reconstructed from a two-lane, county-type asphalt roadway to a three-lane roadway with on-street bicycle lanes and a new bridge over Kee Branch. This project also included sidewalks, water utility renewals, a new storm drain system, pavement markings, new street signs and streetlights.

Roadway reconstruction projects are designed to address roadways with the worst-rated pavement conditions, widen roads to relief traffic congestion, improve roadway safety, and provide sidewalks where applicable to improve quality of life of neighborhoods and drivers on our roadways. This program is essential to maintain the state of good repair of roadways throughout our 99-square-mile city.

During Fiscal Year 2025, which ended Sept. 30, Arlington had invested more than $20 million in the roadway rebuild capital improvements program, which includes residential rebuilds and roadway reconstruction.

Please visit the Public Works Department webpage for additional information about this and other capital improvement projects.

Bond Tracker: The Bond Tracker, available atwww.arlingtontx.gov/bondtracker, keeps residents informed about the projects that were approved by Arlington voters in the City’s bond elections. Projects selected for bond packages are presented to voters on a ballot after a series of meetings, tours, public forums and extensive study by a Council-appointed Citizens Bond Committee, generally held every four to five years.
