Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15 to October 15, and the Arlington Public Library invites you to celebrate with us! Explore the cultures, histories and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities through engaging programs, cultural experiences and opportunities to connect.

Little Explorers: Hispanic Heritage Month
Friday, September 18, 10 a.m., George W. Hawkes Downtown Library
Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month through a morning of play-based learning designed especially for little ones.
A Sip of Culture
Monday, September 21, 6 p.m., East Library and Recreation Center
Experience Hispanic cultures through traditional drinks passed down through generations during this flavorful, one-hour cultural celebration. For this session we’re making Hispanic-Inspired Non alcoholic mocktails.
Tea Time
Wednesday, September 23, 6:30 p.m., East Library and Recreation Center
Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by learning and tasting hibiscus fresca. Traditionally known as agua de jamaica, this popular drink is made from dried hibiscus flowers. Drinks are free, but supplies are limited.
Sewing Retreat: Off Shoulder Ruffle Top
Saturday, September 26, 10 a.m., George W. Hawkes Downtown Library
Join our fall Sewing Retreat and create an off-the-shoulder ruffle top with a design honoring Hispanic Heritage Month. Registration is required, and participants will receive additional information about the project and materials after registering.

First Thursdays: Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration

Celebrate Hispanic heritage and culture during Downtown Arlington’s First Thursdays! Enjoy a vibrant Folklórico dance performance and create your own traditional Mexican-inspired mask. All ages are welcome; craft supplies are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
De Todo un Poco: Conversación en Español

Put your Spanish skills to work in a relaxed and welcoming conversation circle. Practice speaking, build confidence and connect with other Spanish-language learners through lively conversation. This is a conversation group rather than a Spanish class, so some experience with the language is recommended.
Hand Sewing: Mola Fabric Art

Discover the art of molas in this hands-on sewing workshop. Learn simple stitches and explore the vibrant layered designs and reverse-appliqué techniques associated with this textile tradition. All skill levels are welcome. Ages 13 and older; limited to the first 12 participants.

Create a colorful yarn painting while learning about artistic traditions of the Wixáritari people of Mexico. Ages 13 and older; limited to the first 12 participants.
Spice Club
Saturday, October 17, Noon, Southeast Branch
At Spice Club, you will learn about different spices every month. Attend to discover a spice and receive a take-and-make kit featuring a variety of unique spices, herbs, or blends.
Each kit will include: Information about the featured spice, its history with a few facts; two simple recipe suggestions; Small packet of the featured spice to try. This month you will learn about: Sazón Completa & Cuban Cuisine
