Downtown Arlington is bringing fresh color to the district with Downtown in Bloom, a landscaping program adding 74 planters to the Downtown streetscape. Installed Oct. 12-15, 2026, the new additions reflect a collaborative effort within Arlington to beautify Downtown streets to encourage future investment and nurture community pride.
Funded by the City of Arlington, the 44 large and 30 small planters line West Main Street, Front Street and Abram Street. Pansies, rosemary, kale, blue junipers, and potato vines bring seasonal color. The planters feature self-watering technology, with three seasonal plant changeouts planned each year to keep the displays fresh. Hanging baskets are planned for existing city poles in spring 2027 as the program expands.
Volunteers played a key role during planting days on Oct. 14 and 15, helping Downtown Arlington staff and Arlington Ambassadors plant, water, and clean up.
The program also expands the Arlington Ambassadors’ services with a dedicated landscaper and a new water truck for year-round care of the planters. These additions complement the Ambassadors’ existing clean and safe team and support the landscaping program as it grows.
“When we invest in our downtown, we show others it’s worth investing in, too,” said Garret Martin, President & CEO of Downtown Arlington. “But more importantly, these planters are another step toward helping Arlington residents fall in love with their downtown.”
Downtown in Bloom builds on Downtown Arlington’s ongoing beautification efforts. Downtown Arlington thanks the City of Arlington, Mayor, and City Council for their investment and the volunteers who helped bring the project to life. The community is invited to enjoy the new greenery while exploring downtown’s shops, restaurants, and public spaces.
