Design will begin soon on a new water tower planned for the corner of Treepoint Drive and Pointclear Court in Southwest Arlington. In September, the Arlington City Council approved the design phase of the new project and a $1,242,500 engineering contract with Kimley-Horn and Associates Inc. Construction on the 1-million-gallon water tower, or elevated storage tank, is expected to kick off in about one year.

Under the new contract, Kimley-Horn will deliver a design that includes site development, paving, drainage, yard piping, tank sections, roof and floor plans, site lighting, electrical improvements, instrumentation, controls, and approximately 1,000 linear feet of 16-inch water main. Bids will then be taken for the construction phase of the project. Construction the tower will take about two years.

With more than 1,400 miles of water mains and 10 elevate storage tanks, Arlington Water Utilities provides billions of gallons of water to Arlington residents each year. Water towers allow the City of Arlington to continue to maintain distribution system pressure, meet water demand, and meet storage requirements set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

Arlington Water Utilities is also building a new water tower in East Arlington that will hold 2.5 million gallons of water. That tower is just east of the East Arlington Police Service Center at 2001 New York Ave. It will be finished in 2027.
