After a holiday meal, you might be tempted to pour you used cooking oil down the drain. But did you know that fats, oils, and grease can harden in pipes and sewer lines, causing blockages and clogs?

What can you do to prevent this?

Instead of pouring cooking oil down the drain, let the used oil cool, then transfer it into a rigid plastic container, preferably, the original container the oil came in. Even small amounts of grease, like what’s at the bottom of a skillet after cooking, should not be poured down your drains.

Join the City of Arlington as we team up with the Wastewater and Treatment Education Roundtable (WATER) and the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) to host the 13th annual Holiday Grease Roundup, a regional effort to keep used cooking oil and grease out of our sewer systems.

From Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026, through Sunday, Jan. 31, 2027, residents can do their part to dispose of cooking oil and grease for free at these locations:

  • Cravens Park at 400 Cravens Park Drive
  • Vandergriff Park at 2800 S. Center St.
  • Trinity River Authority, 5300 S. Collins St. (8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday)

When residents recycle and properly dispose of these oils, we can help prevent clogged sewer pipes, keep a valuable resource out of landfills, and turn used cooking oil and grease into a clean, renewable alternative fuel.

Residents who have more than five gallons of used cooking oil to recycle can request pick up at their home by calling Arlington Water Utilities at 817-459-5902 during the Holiday Grease Roundup timeline.

This collection is for cooking oil and grease only. Motor oil and other automotive fluids are not accepted.
