The Tarrant County Commissioners Court recognized the City of Arlington’s 150th anniversary during its May 12, 2026 meeting with a proclamation that celebrates the city’s growth, identity and contributions to the region.
The proclamation marks Arlington’s founding in 1876 and highlights the city’s transformation from a small rural farming community into the seventh‑largest city in Texas and the 50th‑largest in the nation. Commissioners noted Arlington’s population of more than 400,000 residents and its role as a major hub in the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex.
The court praised Arlington’s longtime reputation as “The American Dream City,” emphasizing the city’s history of opportunity, economic expansion and civic leadership. The proclamation also recognizes Arlington’s status as the “Entertainment Capital of Texas.”
Commissioners highlighted the city’s educational impact, noting that Arlington is served by five independent school districts and home to The University of Texas at Arlington, which helps prepare future leaders and strengthens the regional workforce.
The proclamation emphasizes Arlington’s balance of hometown character and forward‑focused development, stating that community members, businesses, schools and civic leaders continue working together to shape the city’s future.
