Council members swearing in on May 13, 2026

Surrounded by family and friends, the newly elected District 4 and 5 Council Representatives were sworn in during the May 12, 2026, evening City Council meeting. Tom Ware and Brittney Garcia-Dumas were elected May 2 to their first three-year terms to serve. Ware represents City Council District 4, which encompasses The Parks at Arlington Mall, a portion of the I-20 business corridor, and the training facilities for the Police and Fire departments. Garcia-Dumas represents District 5, which includes Downtown Arlington, City Hall, The University of Texas at Arlington, Central Library, and General Motors.

Arlington City Council incumbent Nikkie Hunter was also sworn in during Tuesday’s meeting. The District 3 City Council representative has served since 2021. District 3 represents the portion of the city bounded primarily by Matlock Road on the west and Pioneer Parkway on the north. District 3 includes a portion of the I-20 business corridor, the Arlington Municipal Airport, Tarrant County College, and the Arlington Highlands.

Mayor Jim Ross was re-elected to his third and final term as Mayor. He has served as mayor since 2021.

None of the three candidates for the open City Council District 8 At-Large seat received more than 50% of the vote. Jason Shelton, who received 38.27% of the vote, and Melody Fowler, who received 46.91% of the vote, will face off in a run-off election on June 13. Early voting for the June 13 runoff election is from June 1-9, 2026.
