The Arlington Police Department is investigating a fatal crash involving a passenger vehicle and a bicycle that occurred Monday afternoon along eastbound Interstate 20 near Matlock Road.

On Monday, May 25, 2026, at approximately 3:49 p.m., officers responded to the eastbound lanes of Interstate 20 near Matlock Road to investigate a major crash involving a bicyclist and a 2005 Toyota Prius.

Preliminary investigation indicates the bicyclist was attempting to cross the interstate from south to north when a passenger vehicle traveling in the second lane swerved to avoid the bicyclist. A second passenger vehicle traveling behind that car, identified as the Toyota Prius, then struck the bicyclist.

The bicyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Prius, along with the other occupants in the vehicle, sustained minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Eastbound Interstate 20 was temporarily shut down near Cooper Street while officers investigated the circumstances of the crash and cleared the roadway.

The investigation remains ongoing.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased once next of kin have been notified.
