The Arlington Police Department has made an arrest in connection to a March 2026 crash that resulted in the death of a 6-year-old girl.
Following a thorough investigation, APD Accident Investigators obtained two warrants for the arrest of 21-year-old Courtney Getz on one count of Intoxication Manslaughter and one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance PG2 < 1g.
On June 16, 2026, members of the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force located Ms. Getz in Arlington and took her into custody without incident. She was booked into the Arlington City Jail and has since been transferred to the Tarrant County Jail.
On March 25, 2026, APD officers responded to a crash in the westbound lanes of I-20 near the US 287 interchange involving a Nissan Sentra and a dump truck. Accident Investigators determined Ms. Getz, who was driving the Sentra, collided with the rear end of the dump truck. She and two children in the vehicle were transported to area hospitals where one of the children, 6-year-old Aviah Getz, was later pronounced deceased. The driver of the dump truck was not injured.
During a subsequent search of the Sentra, officers recovered THC vape pens. Accident Investigators also received information that Ms. Getz may have used THC the night of the crash. They obtained a search warrant for a blood sample that was collected and sent to a lab for further analysis. Lab results confirmed the presence of THC in her blood.
Toxicologists with the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office advised the results were consistent with Ms. Getz using THC within 4-6 hours of the blood draw. They indicated she may have been impaired and should not have been driving when the crash occurred.
ORIGINAL RELEASE
The Arlington Police Department is investigating an overnight crash that resulted in the death of a 6-year-old girl.
On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at approximately 12:29 a.m., officers were dispatched to the westbound lanes of I-20 near the US 287 interchange in response to a crash involving a 2014 Nissan Sentra and a dump truck.
Investigators believe the driver of the Sentra became distracted by something occurring in the back seat of the car, causing them to take their eyes off the road. The Sentra then collided with the rear end of the dump truck.
The driver of the Sentra and two children in the backseat were transported to area hospitals. One of the children, the 6-year-old girl, was later pronounced deceased from her injuries.
Although the child was in a car seat at the time, investigators believe she may not have been wearing her seatbelt properly or had unbuckled it.
The driver and the other child suffered non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the dump truck was not injured.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the name of the deceased.
